Baptist Hosts Puppet-Making, Storytelling Group for Adults Battling Cancer

Jackson, Miss. - March 31, 2003 -- Beginning April 23 from noon to 2:00 p.m., Baptist Cancer Services will host a four week Puppet Making and Storytelling program in the Activities Room of Baptist's Hederman Cancer Center.

Susan Anand will be leading the sessions. Anand is a Licensed Art Therapist and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. The free program provides patients an outlet for feelings and communication, reduces stress, assists in pain management, helps build positive coping skills and encourages self-awareness.

"Puppets and puppet making are for people of all ages," Anand said. "Puppets come to life as they are endowed with character and stories and adults can benefit from both the creative process and finding meaning in metaphor. This experience should help to build community and artistic collaboration in a fun and positive environment."

Supplies are provided. To register or for more information, call the Baptist Health Line 1-800-948-6262 or 948-6262.
