Increasingly, more organizations provide information about the quality of care at hospitals to help patients make more informed decisions. We are dedicated to serving as a quality leader both locally and nationally by supporting the use of valid, reliable data to assure the delivery of optimal patient care. We collect data about our patients, their treatments and their outcomes. This data helps us to understand what we are doing that is working and where we might improve our practices for the best possible patient outcomes.

Baptist voluntarily provides information to a number of outside organizations that report healthcare quality. Some of these include the following.
• HealthGrades HealthGrades is an independent healthcare ratings organization, providing ratings and profiles of hospitals, nursing homes and physicians to consumers, corporations, health plans and hospitals. It is a for-profit organization listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange. In 2013, Baptist Medical Center has more 5-Star Ratings from HealthGrades than any other hospital in Jackson. • Hospital Compare This website is a joint effort of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA). The HQA is a public-private collaboration established to promote reporting on hospital quality of care. The HQA consists of organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, and Federal agencies.
Baptist seeks accreditation from a number of organizations committed to healthcare quality. Among these are The Joint Commission (JC), the nation's largest health care regulating organization. See our full list of accreditations and certifications.
In addition to overall accreditation for Baptist Medical Center and Mississippi Hospital for Restorative Care, many of our specialized programs have earned quality awards and certifications. Many of these are a result of meeting or exceeding stringent criteria from evidence-based best practices, and on-site reviews by experts in their fields of practice.
Baptist requires board certification for physicians to remain on its active medical staff. Board-eligible and board-certified physicians have been trained in their specialized areas of medicine. They have practiced for a specific period of time and passed a written or oral examination.
